“The power that makes grass grow, fruit ripen,
and guides the bird in flight is in us all.”
~ Anzia Yezierska.
Anavo Ranch is 501c3 nonprofit organization with the mission of galvanizing the market supply and demand for heritage, humanely raised farm animals.
Factory farms represent the source of over 99% of our meat, which translates to over 9 billion land animals a year being needlessly tortured, in just the US alone.
Every day, animal Auschwitz. We are better than this.
But let’s be clear: Anavo is pro-animal, and pro eating animal. The two are not mutually exclusive. Anavo will help bring harmony to the friction between carnivores and vegans. Anavo will be a counterforce to factory farms.
What We Do
Anavo provides two critical components to help change our current trajectory to a healthier, more humane meat production: 1) We tell the story in an inclusive way that brings as many people and organizations to the table – literally and figuratively, and 2) We breed heritage farm animals for regional farms to be raised & rendered compassionately for consumption.
We’ve been lead to believe that industrialized farming was more efficient. Yet its efficiencies only serve to make large agricultural companies like Perdue and Tyson billion-dollar profits. Factory Farming is certainly not efficient when the negative externalities (that we all pay for) are taken into consideration, namely that our lands and waters are being poisoned, and we are losing our farm animal’s original genetics.
We humans do not require that much meat, and in fact many of us could feel better and live longer if we didn’t consume as much mass-produced meat. But above all, choosing to not ingest any level of sick & sad cells from another sentient being will raise our collective health as well as our consciousness.
Our Operating Principle
Anavo’s operating principle of “less is more” manifests throughout our physical property and educational messages: Less meat but of higher quality will cost the same amount. Less is more when it comes to design. Less is more when it comes to sustainability (and the Ranch will utilize solar energy, grey water, and green design principles). Less is more when it comes to our happiness. This principle will tap into the “back to the basics” movement afoot, attracting more people to the fold, to the table, and to the eye & heart opening experiences.
Educational classes, experiential stays on the property, Farm to Table dinners, speaker series, special events, sales of young heritage farm animals, school tours, and donations / grants.
